Presenting:
BUSINESS – ‘If I Knew Then’ … Lessons & Reflections on 35 Years of Talking for a Living
I find my 35-year success as a full-time voice over actor remarkable when I recount the scads of mistakes, flubs, and flat-out failures that have accompanied my journey. My presentation recounts the often-hilarious missteps and blunders, and—most importantly—the lessons I learned that enabled me to turn failures into successes. As George Bernard Shaw said: “Success does not consist in never making mistakes but in never making the same one a second time.” I share with you some of my whoppers in the hope you won’t ever repeat them!

About Harlan Hogan:
Over 35 years some very famous slogans have entered your ears via Harlan’s voice:
From Raids’ “Kills bugs fast, Kills bugs dead” and Head & Shoulders’ “That little
itch should be telling you something” to the iconic, “It’s the cereal even Mikey
Likes”.
Today, he’s still bringing us memorable slogans, “How’s that for trendy?” for Ford
150 trucks, “It’s not home – but it’s close” for Cracker Barrel, and reminding PBS
viewers day in and day out that, “This program was made possible by viewers like
you. Thank you”
He is the 2012 Campaigns & Elections award winner for best voice over, that nice
guy telling you how to minimize those pesky gout flare-ups, and to: “Please Drink
Responsibly” on a slew of Anheuser-Busch commercials.
Harlan holds a BFA in Theatre from Illinois Wesleyan University, worked in radio
as on-air talent, failed miserably as a computer salesman, and wrote broadcast copy
for J. Walter Thompson before talking the plunge to become a full time actor.
He’s the author of VO: Tales & Techniques of a VoiceOver Actor, and 2 editions of
The Voice Actors Guide to Recording at Home & on the Road with Jeffrey Fisher.
His web store Voice Over Essentials features his signature series voice over
products like the Porta-Booth Plus & Pro® sound booths, VOHP Headphones &
the much praised VO: 1-A Voice Over Microphone.
