Presenting:
VOICE ACTING – Musicality: Finding the Melody of Your Reads

Pitch, intonation, melody and tempo contribute to performance success as much as truth, believability, and realism. Upward, downward, and level inflections convey different intentions. Staccato, legato, high, low and wavering tones create vocal interest. Musicality enhances listen-ability. Spoken “tunes,” or as Dick Orkin coined “radio rhythm,” changes with each script and copy style. Having a technique to quickly access a specific script’s tune saves you time in the recording session, gives you performance options, and helps you land more voice over jobs.

VO actors have read the advice in my book about how to add musicality on the mic. This presentation is a unique opportunity to see and hear it in action. You’ll learn musical terms, how musicality applies to specific words and phrases, and ways to unite body movements with the voice. Your ears, eyes, and mouth will be challenged as you learn how to improve your performance.

About Elaine Clark:
There’s a reason why There’s Money Where Your Mouth Is (now in its 3rd edition) continues to be the top voice-over training book on the market. Its author, Elaine Clark, is one of the most well-respected and busiest voice over actors and instructors in the country.

Elaine has voiced hundreds of commercials, narrations, and talking toys, 50 video games, 20 audiobooks, a couple of anime cartoon series, and numerous background voices in films; she has appeared in a myriad of on-camera corporate training films, commercials, and supporting film roles. In addition to performing, she casts, directs, produces and is the owner/founder of the highly respected Voice One actor’s training studio in San Francisco.

As an actor, teacher, and business professional, Elaine shares her unique overall perspective with her students and fellow actors. Her study and teaching of word patterns, melody changes, tempo shifts, and attitudes are used by thousands of voice actors around the world.

When Elaine transitioned from stage acting to voice more than 30 years ago, she recognized that a faster method of getting inside the character was necessary in order to quickly access and deliver a performance with more depth and believability. Through trial and error she developed and honed her trademarked M.I.N.E.™ method (using Motivations, Intentions, Need, and Emotions) that is successfully used by many working voice actors today.
